Green Smoothie Bowls (Print version)

A vibrant, nutrient-packed green bowl of spinach, mango, banana and crunchy toppings for a quick, energizing breakfast.

# What goes in:

→ Smoothie Base

01 - 2 cups fresh spinach or kale
02 - 1 frozen banana
03 - 1 cup frozen mango chunks
04 - 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or any plant-based milk
05 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds
06 - 1 tablespoon peanut butter or almond butter
07 - 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

→ Toppings

08 - ½ kiwi, sliced
09 - ½ cup strawberries, sliced
10 - ¼ cup granola (gluten-free if desired)
11 - 2 tablespoons coconut flakes
12 - 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
13 - Fresh mint leaves (optional)

# Cooking steps:

01 - In a high-speed blender, combine the spinach, frozen banana, frozen mango chunks, almond milk, chia seeds, nut butter, and honey if using. Blend on high until the mixture is thick, creamy, and completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
02 - Pour the blended smoothie base evenly between two serving bowls, spreading it across the bottom to create a flat surface for toppings.
03 - Decoratively arrange the sliced kiwi, sliced strawberries, granola, coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds, and fresh mint leaves on top of each smoothie bowl in sections or rows for a visually appealing presentation.
04 - Serve immediately with a spoon while the smoothie base is still cold and thick. Enjoy right away for the best texture and flavor.

# Tips from flavorandfeast:

01 -
  • The frozen banana and mango trick you into forgetting you are eating a massive pile of greens for breakfast.
  • Everything goes into the blender at once and you are eating in ten minutes flat with almost no cleanup.
02 -
  • A regular blender can work but you really need a high speed one to break down raw greens without leaving chewy bits everywhere.
  • Frozen fruit is nonnegotiable because fresh fruit will give you a watery smoothie instead of a thick bowl you can eat with a spoon.
03 -
  • Freeze your bananas when they are fully ripe and speckled because that is when they are at peak sweetness and blending creaminess.
  • Let the blended base sit for two minutes before adding toppings so the chia seeds can begin to thicken everything naturally.
