Dirt Pudding with Chocolate Layers (Print version)

Creamy chocolate pudding layered with crushed cookies and topped with gummy worms for a fun no-bake dessert.

# What goes in:

→ Pudding Layer

01 - 1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
02 - 2 cups cold milk
03 - 1 cup whipped topping, thawed

→ Cookie Dirt

04 - 18 chocolate sandwich cookies, finely crushed

→ Decorations

05 - 12 gummy worms

# Cooking steps:

01 - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes until thickened and smooth.
02 - Gently fold in the whipped topping until fully incorporated and the mixture is creamy and uniform.
03 - Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor or place them in a zip-top bag and roll with a rolling pin until fine crumbs resemble dirt.
04 - Spoon a layer of cookie crumbs into the bottom of 6 serving cups or jars. Add a layer of the chocolate pudding mixture. Repeat layers, finishing with a generous topping of cookie crumbs to completely cover the pudding.
05 - Decorate each cup with 2 gummy worms, poking them into the dirt so they appear to crawl out.
06 - Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld and achieve the best texture.

# Tips from flavorandfeast:

01 -
  • It's basically foolproof and comes together in about 20 minutes flat
  • The texture combination of creamy pudding against crunchy crumbs is somehow addictive
  • People of all ages get surprisingly excited about eating dirt
02 -
  • Don't skip the chilling time because the flavors need to marry and the texture settles into something magical
  • The cookie layer needs to be thick enough on top or the worms won't stay put and will slide right out
03 -
  • If your pudding layer feels too thick, stir in a splash more milk before folding in the whipped topping
  • The zip-top bag crushing method is actually therapeutic and gives you more control over the crumb size
